As adults we know how the experience of running out of hours in the day plays out – work like mad, schedule very efficiently, multi-task, prioritize, miss sleep, drink excessive coffee, skip work-outs, rush through or miss meals, and generally miss out on the good stuff of life during our busiest moments. If you’re like me, I deplore this kind of stress and these experiences culminate in a pledge to avoid similar situations in the future invariably through better task planning and more effective time management.
For middle school teachers and counselors, however, it falls on our shoulders to help students coming up from the elementary develop sufficient fluency with these skills so they they can do most of the things they want and still get enough sleep and exercise. Not too long ago I came across a website that takes a very empowering and practical approach to this topic that middle school students, teachers, and parents may find very useful in developing or teaching these skills.
What I like best about Study Guides and Strategies Ten Applications of Time Management resource is the combination between interactive activities that very easily allow people to see why they are so busy and therapeutically sound goal setting and change strategies. At first glance the text dense two tone format may be a bit off-putting but the content is extremely useful. – AC
